Whether you’re into college comedies, freaky horror flicks or movies involving a lot of prophylactic jokes, streaming services are hooking you up this week.
Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Prime Video and more have several new movies on tap if you’re looking to spend couch time getting your film fill. There are theatrical releases to catch up with that have come home, like a 1980s throwback monster fantasy and a supernatural mystery. Original streaming flicks are available, too, like a soccer misadventure with Mark Wahlberg and a star vehicle for Adam Sandler’s daughter.
Here are 10 new and notable movies you can stream right now:
The R-rated comedy stars Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser, who hatch the idea for an innovative new condom and score a prize sponsorship with the World Cup. However, a drunken incident at the championship match makes them wanted men and sends the oddball pair on a bonkers adventure involving tanks, criminals and dangerous beasts.
Where to watch: Prime Video
Both brash and vulnerable, Sydney Sweeney plays the punch-out queen in a biopic that follows Christy Martin from West Virginia teen to world’s most famous female boxer. The movie depicts Christy’s toxic marriage with her detestable trainer/husband (Ben Foster) and nuanced relationship with a fellow boxer (Katy O’Brian).
Where to watch: HBO Max
Director Bryan Fuller combines his quirky “Pushing Daisies” look with “Gremlins” throwback vibes for this horror fantasy. Eight-year-old Aurora (Sophie Sloan) is convinced the monster under her bed ate her family, so she recruits her hitman neighbor (Mads Mikkelsen) to combat the creature. Sigourney Weaver is along for the ride as a femme fatale.
Where to watch: HBO Max
Didn’t catch the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along”? This live recording stars Jonathan Groff and a never-better Daniel Radcliffe as talented but tumultuous creative partners, with Lindsay Mendez as their bestie, in a nifty narrative that follows the ups and downs of the trio’s relationship.
Where to watch: Netflix
The sentimental slow-burn drama centers on Stella (Lesley Manville) and Gerry (Ciarán Hinds), an older European couple needing a getaway who travel from Glasgow to Amsterdam. The trip unlocks a new side to Stella, who finds herself wanted a spiritual journey of self-discovery that might not involve her longtime husband.
Where to watch: Peacock
It’s WrestleMania weekend so why not also watch WWE champ CM Punk (real name: Phil Brooks) as a vampire cop? The action horror flick centers on two LAPD officers, one (Justin Long) who wants to join a secret task force of bloodsuckers and the other (Jermaine Fowler) whose family is affected by the group’s violent actions.
Where to watch: Shudder
In director Jonah Hill’s Hollywood satire, Keanu Reeves plays a beloved movie star who, in the process of sussing out a mysterious blackmailer, learns a lot of people actually hate him. Matt Bomer and Cameron Diaz are his high school besties and Hill is the actor’s unhinged crisis lawyer in a dark comedy that’s plenty absurd but also surprisingly sweet.
Where to watch: Apple TV
Produced by Adam Sandler, the college comedy stars daughter Sadie Sandler and “Heretic” breakout Chloe East. Shy freshman Devon (Sandler) befriends wild-child Celeste (East) during orientation and they become roommates, though jealousy, bad manners and many girl-code violations turn them against each other in surprisingly dark ways.
Where to watch: Netflix
Part faux true-crime documentary and part cult chiller, Chris Stuckmann’s horror mystery conjures some supernaturally creepy imagery. Mia (Camille Sullivan) has been searching more than a decade for her sister Riley (Sarah Durn), an internet paranormal investigator who went missing, and finds new leads in a gruesome death and an old ghost town.
Where to watch: Hulu
A good way to avoid sharks is to stay out of the ocean – but what happens when they come to you? The sharp-toothed action flick centers on a South Carolina coastal town wrecked by a hurricane. A pack of bull sharks come swimming in via flood waters to menace locals including a pregnant woman (Phoebe Dynevor) and an agoraphobic teen (Whitney Peak).
