WASHINGTON (TNND) — Republican and Democratic House members are calling for the expulsion of Reps. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and Tony Gonzales, R-Texas amid sex scandals.
Swalwell over the weekend ended his bid for California governor after allegations came out that he sexually assaulted a woman who used to work for him.
Swalwell has denied the allegations and said he would fight the lies, but it was his fight to fight and not his campaign’s.
Earlier this year, news reports surfaced that Gonzales had an affair with a former staffer. Last week, new allegations came out that Gonzales had inappropriate conduct with other members of his team.
Local media reported that he sent explicit messages to more than one employee.
Bipartisan members of Congress have called for both members to be expelled and their expulsion may be voted on this week.
South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace called for both of them to be expelled as well.
Democratic New Mexico Rep. Teresa Leger-Fernandez said she would vote to expel Swalwell and Gonzales from office.
Washington state Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal said both members of Congress need to step down and let investigations happen, according to Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman.
