ALL-AREA BOYS TENNIS TEAM
PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
Eddie Feuer, Sr. and Colin Bringas, Sr., Peninsula
For most high school doubles teams, chemistry develops over the course of a season.
For Peninsula High’s Colin Bringas and Eddie Feuer, it has developed over a decade.
The longtime friends capped one of the most decorated doubles seasons in Peninsula boys tennis history, winning the prestigious Ojai Invitational and the CIF-Southern Section doubles championships.
The accomplishment was the culmination of a partnership that began long before either player stepped onto a high school court.
“We weren’t just playing tennis together,” Bringas said. “We’ve been really good friends since second grade. Spending a lot of time together on and off the court, it’s great to see how we’ve become good friends off the court and become a great team on the court.”
That chemistry translated into one of the most dominant postseason runs Southern California has seen in recent years.
“After lots of matches together, many people have asked us how we have such good chemistry,” Feuer added. “It’s part of being such great friends and knowing each other on and off the court.”
After capturing the Ojai Invitational title, April 25, the duo carried that momentum into the CIF-SS tournament. The pair closed off their memorable run winning 11 consecutive matches, never dropping a set on the road to the championship. Their lone tiebreaker of the entire season came during the second set of their final match.
“Colin and Eddie have played together since the second grade,” Peninsula coach Mike Hoeger said. “They’ve always had strong serves, but this year their return of serve took a step up. At Ojai they only lost their serve once in six straight matches and then broke serve a couple times each set. It was a dominating performance.”
For a Peninsula program with a rich tennis tradition, winning Ojai remains one of the sport’s most coveted accomplishments.
“I’ve had two teams reach the finals and four more reach the semifinals, but never had we won it,” Hoeger said. “Connor Hance won the singles in 2017, but this was our first doubles title.”
The achievement wasn’t lost on the players.
“For a school that’s known for being very good at tennis, it’s a good feeling,” Bringas said.
“It’s a big deal,” Feuer added. “Tennis is really big in our area. Hopefully our kids might go to Peninsula one day and their kids know their dad won Ojai. It’s great to represent our area like that.”
The Ojai title also provided a boost heading into CIF competition.
“It was our last chance, and we did it,” Bringas said. “It really felt like we ended with a bang and gave us a lot of confidence and motivation heading into CIF.”
That confidence helped the duo navigate the mental challenges that come with championship tennis.
“Tennis is hard mentally,” Feuer said. “After Ojai, we had all the confidence to get it done and maintain focus. I’m proud we were able to keep our focus and keep our path going.”
Bringas said maintaining concentration became one of the team’s biggest strengths.
“In two sets of doubles, a lot can happen if you lose focus,” Bringas said. “There’s a break here or there and it could cost you the whole set. This year, we did really well at staying focused throughout the whole match.
“In the second set of the final match, I started feeling the nerves and everything on the line. I was kind of struggling, but Eddie helped me get through that 100 percent.”
Their success also carried extra meaning because it came under Hoeger, who held off on retirement to coach the Panthers this season.
“I’m super grateful,” Bringas said. “I wouldn’t imagine winning this without him as our coach.”
Feuer echoed those sentiments.
“We were saying we were going to win it for him because he came back and helped us do this,” Feuer said. “I couldn’t imagine playing for someone else.”
Now, the childhood friends will head in different directions. Bringas will continue his career at Westmont College, while Feuer is headed to Point Loma Nazarene University. They’ll remain conference rivals, ensuring their tennis journeys will continue to intersect.
For Bringas, the realization hit during the drive home from the CIF championship.
“It was bittersweet,” Bringas said. “I realized after, in the car ride home, it’s the end of an era with me playing with Eddie because we’ve played our whole childhood together. It’s kind of sad, but also happy it ended so well.”
“It couldn’t have been a better way to end it,” Feuer said. “Winning those two tournaments we’ve been trying to win. Of course it makes me sad, but looking back, it was such a great way to end with one of my best friends.”
COACH OF THE YEAR
Bonnie Maye, El Segundo
The challenge facing El Segundo’s boys tennis team entering the 2026 season was unlike any it had faced before.
With a move to the Bay League — home to perennial South Bay powers Palos Verdes, Peninsula and Mira Costa — the Eagles were tasked with proving they could compete in one of the state’s toughest tennis leagues.
Under the guidance of Maye, they did just that.
Despite not having courts on campus and sharing facilities at Recreation Park, El Segundo posted a winning record, earned an at-large CIF-Southern Section playoff berth and advanced to the Division 4 semifinals.
“The team really pulled together when the going was tough,” Maye said. “We had to remember that when we got down, we needed to look to ourselves to rally and be able to focus all that energy into the next point. One point at a time.”
Led by team-MVP Shane Hines and co-captains Connor Francisco and Aarush Antil, among others, the Eagles overcame injuries and lineup changes throughout the season.
“We had an incredible year with all members of the team stepping in to help with the victories,” Maye said. “The boys realized it takes constant effort, attention to detail and dedication to improve just that one percent every time on the court.”
