Michigan State’s latest football commit is a player Pat Fitzgerald has been recruiting for a long time. Since he was born actually, because it’s his son.
Brendan Fitzgerald, the youngest son of Michigan State’s new head coach, announced his verbal commitment to his father’s team as a preferred walk-on Saturday. He’ll be a wide receiver in the class of 2027.

Brendan follows both his brothers Jack, who committed to Northwestern in the 2023 cycle, right at the end of Fitzgerald’s 17-year span running the program. And as Fitzgerald helped coach youngest sons Ryan and Brendan as an offensive assistant at Loyola Academy, Ryan went on to play for Iowa last fall, where he remains after his father’s hiring at Michigan State in December 2025. The son of MSU special teams coordinator LeVar Woods, Mason, is also a tight end on that Iowa team.
With Brendan’s commitment, which his father made unofficial reference to earlier this offseason, that makes the Fitzgerald family 3-for-3 in sending their kids on to the college ranks, granted family connections play a role there.
