Indiana football has been hot on the recruiting trail recently, as the Hoosiers’ momentum continued Monday. Three-star linebacker Cain Brackney flipped from Big Ten rival UCLA to Indiana, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. Brackney is the 16th commit and third linebacker in the Hoosiers’ 2027 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker is the No. 77 linebacker and No. 17 player out of Oklahoma, per the Rivals Industry rankings. Brackney committed to UCLA on April 24, but visited Los Angeles, Bloomington and Ann Arbor, Michigan in June. He received an offer from the Hoosiers on May 18 and officially visited June 12.
Brackney moved to Oklahoma from Colorado, where he played his sophomore season at Cherry Creek High School in Englewood. As a sophomore, he recorded 57 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks and one fumble recovery in 11 games.
Brackney played at Union High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during his junior season. He tallied 102 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, one interception that he returned for a touchdown and one fumble recovery.
Brackney will play his senior season at Bixby High School in the fall. The Spartans finished the 2025 season with a 13-0 overall record and won the Class 6A-Division I state championship after defeating Owasso High School 31-17.
Indiana’s 2026 linebacker room will be headlined by redshirt seniors Isaiah Jones, Jeff Utzinger and Kaiden Turner, plus junior Rolijah Hardy. The Hoosiers have three true freshmen this upcoming season: Jacob Savage, Ja’Dyn Williams and Henry Ohlinger.
The Hoosiers start their quest for another national championship against the University of North Texas on Sept. 5 at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
