FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – A man was taken into custody on Thursday night after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a mental health crisis that led to the evacuation of surrounding areas near Lake Shore Drive and Stratford Lane in Fleming Island.
A large police presence was reported Thursday night. Deputies responded to the area after a man fired a few shots into the ground, according to the CCSO.

The SWAT team arrived at the scene to negotiate with the man, who deputies said was contained in his yard.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community to avoid the area as deputies work to clear the scene.
