New aerial photos from @bioreconstruct on X show major progress across the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including the massive roller coaster show building, the future Harryhausen’s restaurant, and the former MuppetVision 3D theater area.
The latest photos show the full scale of the project, which is transforming the former Muppets Courtyard into a new Monsters, Inc. land while expanding into backstage space behind the park.
The former courtyard is still largely dirt, but the layout is becoming more defined. Scaffolding, construction materials, lifts, and equipment are spread throughout the area between the former MuppetVision 3D theater and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano.
The biggest visible update is the future Monsters, Inc. door coaster show building, where a massive steel frame continues to rise in the former backstage Cast Member parking lot.
Multiple levels of steel beams, diagonal bracing, and decking are now installed, while cranes and boom lifts remain active around the structure. The surrounding concrete slab extends far beyond the current steel frame, showing the large footprint of the attraction facility.
Two concrete and block structures that resemble elevator shafts are visible across the slab. Additional steel pieces and curved track components are visible in these photos near several personnel lifts.
Work also continues on the future Harryhausen’s restaurant, which is replacing Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano.
Recent ground-level updates showed the facade beginning to take shape, and the aerial photos show just how much work is underway across the entire structure.
The restaurant is inspired by Harryhausen’s, the sushi restaurant seen in the original Monsters, Inc.
The former MuppetVision 3D theater building remains standing but is also surrounded by construction activity. Disney has announced that the theater will become The Glob. Small curved garden walls appear to have been erected closer to the outer edge of the upcoming land, adjacent to the theater.
Scaffolding lines several sides of the building, and crews appear to be working around the connecting spaces between the theater, restaurant, and front courtyard.
Monstropolis will be the first land based on Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently revealed that the land’s story will center on H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” a celebration welcoming humans into Monstropolis after the events of the original film.
The project includes the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, Harryhausen’s, and The Glob theater. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Monstropolis.
