Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell and his wife, Susan Dell, have pledged $750 million to the University of Texas at Austin, marking one of the largest donations ever made to a public university in the United States. The contribution will support the development of an advanced medical campus and a next-generation hospital powered by artificial intelligence.
The investment aims to strengthen healthcare delivery, accelerate medical research, and expand access to specialized treatment in Central Texas. Through this initiative, the university plans to create a healthcare ecosystem that combines cutting-edge technology with patient-centered care.
The new UT Dell Medical Center will integrate artificial intelligence into its core operations from the outset. Unlike traditional hospitals that adopt AI after construction, this facility will embed AI technologies into clinical workflows, diagnostics, and patient care systems from day one.
As a result, healthcare professionals will be able to make faster decisions, improve care coordination, and enhance patient outcomes. The project also seeks to advance research in precision medicine and data-driven healthcare solutions.
Beyond healthcare infrastructure, the donation will fund student scholarships, housing initiatives, and advanced computing resources. The university also plans to strengthen its research capabilities through investments in high-performance computing and medical innovation.
According to Moneycontrol, the donation will support the broader UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research, a large-scale initiative designed to position the university as a leader in healthcare technology and scientific discovery.
Michael and Susan Dell have maintained a long-standing relationship with the University of Texas. Over the years, they have contributed significantly to education, healthcare, and research programs across the institution.
With this latest commitment, the couple’s total contributions to the university exceed $1 billion, making them the first donors in the institution’s history to reach that milestone.
The university expects the new medical center to open by 2030. Once completed, the facility will serve as a hub for advanced treatment, groundbreaking research, and medical education. Moreover, university leaders believe the project will help redefine how healthcare systems use artificial intelligence to improve patient care and drive innovation for decades to come.
