In honor of America’s 250th birthday, member of Congress from throughout the nation will be coming to Philadelphia. NBC10’s Matt DeLucia reports.
Members of Congress will gather at Philadelphia’s Independence Hall to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary, Rep. Brendan Boyle (D., Philadelphia) announced on Thursday. The gathering is set to take place on July 2, 2026, exactly 250 years after the Second Continental Congress voted for American independence.
In a statement, Boyle wrote he had worked for years to bring a historic gathering to Philadelphia for America’s semiquincentennial celebration.

“Exactly two years ago I launched this effort to bring Members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, back to the place where it all began 250 years ago: Independence Hall,” Boyle said. “I am very proud and excited this historic and special event is happening. It will be a unifying moment for the Congress and our country, at a time when we need it most.”
Boyle did not reveal which congressional members will be part of the gathering but a spokesperson wrote more details regarding the participants and programming will be announced at a later date.
Numerous events are occurring across the country in celebration of America’s 250th birthday, including several in Philadelphia.
