Canada began their 2026 World Cup campaign with a credible draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina thanks to Cyle Larin’s superb late goal.
The co-host nation started well in Toronto, but their early momentum was stalled by Jovo Lukic’s header from a corner.
Canada upped the ante in the second half and secured their first World Cup point when Larin scored with a sublime finish.

How hard must that have been for Alphonso Davies to watch from the dugout?
The game was there for the taking and he could have added so much to Canada’s attack, particularly when pushing for a winner.
An agonizing watch from the bench as Larin got in a good place to score a winner late on but his shot was blocked.
Here’s Sead Kolasinac celebrating his goal-preventing clearance off the line like he had scored a goal.
A defender who loves defending — and with that remarkable intervention up onto the bar, he probably felt he had kept his team in with a chance of winning this match.
As it turned out, he played Cyle Larin onside for Canada’s equalizer before being subbed off.
As Phil said earlier, plenty of encouragement for Canada to take despite not getting the win.
The home side certainly created enough against a resolute and streetwise, if limited, Bosnia side, and probably deserved the win on the balance of play.
Coming from behind with the pressure on shows minerals too. Reaching the knockout stages is certainly realistic on the evidence of that performance.
What a moment for Canada's Cyle Larin.
Off the bench, first touch and a goal to put his team on course for its first World Cup point.
Must say, Telemundo's coverage of that match has been far superior to that of Fox. And that despite my Spanish not being especially impressive.
Sticking around for aerial shots of the urgent team talks during the hydration breaks, pleasing syllable-by-syllable pronunciation of the longer names, and it feels more tapped into the emotional ebbs and flows than the occasionally monotone offering of Fox.
That is Canada's first EVER point at a World Cup in the country's history.
Three losses in 1986. Three losses in 2022.
A brilliant block from Tarek Muharemovic, whose fully outstretched leg blocks what would have been a last-gasp winning goal for Cyle Larin.
The bleach-blond center half, wearing pink boots, might have saved his side a point with that intervention.
That's that in Toronto and Canada gets its first point at a World Cup.
It was richly deserved. The home side pushed and pushed for an equalizer and was finally rewarded through Larin's goal.
90+5’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Larin gets the ball right in front of goal, takes a touch, shoots, but it's a stunning block from Muharemovic!
That was a huge chance for Canada right at the end.
90+3’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Now Bosnia can get the ball deep in the Canadian half from a free kick but goalscorer Larin comes away with it.
He's hauled down by Katic, who's very quickly shown a yellow card for deliberately halting the attack.
90+2’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
That was Eustaquio's last act of this match as he's replaced by Osorio.
90+1’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ahmed is fouled and Canada can put a free kick into the box.
Eustaquio sends the ball in but it's too long and gathered by Vasilj. Disappointing.
There are six minutes added on.
87’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
There are 43,002 in attendance today at BMO Field. Right around at capacity for this stadium.
84’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Kolasinac hobbles off the pitch to be replaced by Burnic.
The Bosnia captain has been excellent today but now finds his side up against it in the final 10 minutes.
Cyle Larin continues the fine form he showed for English second-tier side Southampton in the second half of last season.
Lovely touch, roll and finish, though he was aided by a deflection off the defender.
High-fives all round from Reynolds, Myers, and about 40,000 others.
The equalizer was coming. And there’s every chance Canada wins this now.
79’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Jesse Marsch said before the game that he wanted an impact from Cyle Larin off the bench and that's exactly what he's got!
It's a brilliant goal — Kone driving forward before a very nice flick into the box from Promise.
Larin gets on the end of it, turns, then drives a shot into the net via a deflection off Katic.
You can't say Canada don't deserve it!
79’ Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Cyle Larin has only just come onto the pitch but he's made the difference!
74’ Canada 0-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Two more changes for Bosnia.
Bajraktarevic and Memic come off, replaced by Sunjic and 18 -year-old star Alajbegovic, who is set to join Bayer Leverkusen.
There's lots of fanfare around the Bosnian teenager — let's see if he can impact the game.
