FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason has locked up the coach who brought Patriot basketball back.
The university announced Thursday that Tony Skinn has signed a two-year contract extension through the 2031-32 season, giving him the first six-year contract awarded to a head coach in program history.
The former Mason star and member of the Patriots’ iconic 2006 Final Four team has transformed the program since taking over in 2023. In three seasons, Skinn has compiled a 70-31 record, led the Patriots to three straight 20-win seasons, back-to-back NIT appearances, and the program’s first Atlantic 10 regular-season championship.
“Tony represents everything we value in George Mason men’s basketball,” Athletic Director Marvin Lewis said. “This extension reflects our confidence in his vision, leadership and commitment to continuing to build a nationally respected program.”
Skinn was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2025 and owns the best three-year start by a head coach in school history. His .693 winning percentage ranks among the top active Division I coaches with at least three seasons as a head coach, according to George Mason.
“This extension is a testament to what our staff and players have built together,” Skinn said. “We’ve set a strong foundation over these past three years and will continue to elevate our standard. The best is yet to come.”
For Mason fans, the message is simple:
Tony Skinn isn’t going anywhere.
