Birch Creek Music Performance Center is offering three immersive programs – wind ensemble, chamber music and piano retreats – to help adult musicians enhance their skills in a supportive environment.
The wind ensemble retreat, taking place from Aug. 12 to 15, invites intermediate to advanced adult musicians to refine their music reading and performance skills. Participants will engage in daily rehearsals, sectionals and masterclasses. The program, in its ninth year, is co-directed by educators Jim Stombres, Steve Sveum and Brayer Teague.
The chamber music retreat, now in its seventh year, is designed for strings, woodwinds and piano players. The program runs Aug. 17 through 20 and has participants collaborate in small ensembles under the guidance of professional coaches. Led by The Chicago Sinfonietta principal oboist Ricardo Castañeda, the program emphasizes chamber repertoire and ensemble techniques.
The piano retreat, offered Aug. 21 through 24, caters to piano enthusiasts, teachers and semi-professionals aiming to deepen their artistry. Participants will benefit from masterclasses, lectures and performance opportunities in a non-competitive setting. Led by Northeastern Illinois University piano professor Susan Tang, the program is designed to meet the individual goals of each participant while fostering collaborative learning and artistic growth.
Each retreat includes instruction, continental breakfast and lunch. On-site dormitory housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will have the opportunity to perform in public concerts at the conclusion of their respective programs.
