Sony Pictures Networks India elevates legal executive across TV, sports and corporate

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks India has elevated Rupen Thakkar to vice president and head counsel for networks, including television and Sony Sports Network, along with StudioNext and corporate.
Thakkar shared the update through a LinkedIn post, calling the move an exciting new chapter in his journey with the broadcaster. He said he looked forward to driving new initiatives while continuing to work with the existing team.
Thakkar has been with SPNI for over three years and has held multiple leadership positions within the legal team. Before the elevation, he served as senior lead counsel for sports television and corporate affairs. He had also earlier overseen legal matters for network channels production and StudioNext.
Prior to joining SPNI in 2022, Thakkar worked as AVP legal at Unacademy and previously handled television and Zee5 legal affairs at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited. His career also includes stints at IndiaCast Media and Sahara India.
A law graduate from Jitendra Chauhan College of Law, Thakkar also holds a master of business laws degree from the National Law School of India University. With the promotion, SPNI appears to be strengthening its legal leadership bench as the media and sports broadcasting landscape continues to evolve rapidly.
