This morning, the department responded to the Trumbull Mall for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving two pedestrians.
The initial investigation indicates that a new driver in training was operating a vehicle in the parking lot near Macy’s when the vehicle accelerated and struck an adult woman and a child in a stroller.
Both pedestrians were transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The operator of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
At this time, the department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting a thorough investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

An armed robbery occurred Thursday evening at the Trumbull Shell gas station, located on White Plains Road, where two (2) masked men displayed handguns and threatened employees and customers who were in the store at the time. They fled with an undetermined amount of cash and escaped in a vehicle that was waiting nearby.
The employees contacted the Trumbull Police via 911 at about 9:30 p.m. reporting the armed robbery at the service station, which is located at 648 White Plains Road in Trumbull. During the robbery one of the suspects struck an employee in the head with an open hand. Trumbull EMS later treated that employee at the scene for a minor injury.
From the preliminary information gathered, officers and detectives believe the suspects were able to quickly escape in a waiting vehicle that was parked on an adjacent side street from the gas station but are following several leads.
The investigation is continuing with the help of numerous witnesses and a variety of evidence that was collected from the scene. No other employees or customers were injured as a result of the incident.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Trumbull Police Department at (203) 261-3665, extension “0.”

As leaders elected to make decisions that balance critical investment with long‑term affordability, we are committed to ensuring that Trumbull continues to grow, thrive, and meet the needs of every resident. This year’s budget reflects that responsibility. It prioritizes the areas that matter most to our community: education, public safety, and economic development.
We are making targeted, essential investments that strengthen Trumbull’s future. In economic development, we are moving a key position from part‑time to full‑time so the Town can continue the strong progress already underway, supporting local businesses, attracting new opportunities, and ensuring Trumbull remains competitive in a changing regional economy. Continuing to support this office with modest investments is also a long‑term affordability strategy: expanding our commercial tax base reduces pressure on residential taxpayers and positions Trumbull for sustainable growth.
Public safety remains one of the core responsibilities of local government, and this budget maintains the staffing, training, and equipment our first responders need to protect residents. As Trumbull grows, these investments ensure our first responders can continue delivering the high‑quality service our community expects and deserves.
In education, we are providing a responsible, well‑supported budget that gives the Board of Education the foundation it needs to deliver for students. The FY27 Board of Education Program Expenses budget approved by the Town Council represents a $5,667,106 increase over the prior year’s Board of Education budget.
It is important to be clear about our role. The First Selectman, Town Council, and Board of Finance can approve a budget and identify opportunities, and at every step of this process, we have done exactly that. We have worked diligently to surface real, achievable savings that the Board of Education can choose to implement. These include:
● Insurance savings based on updated projections.
● Potential use of the non‑lapsing account, which maintains a balance available to support FY27 needs.
● Energy efficiencies, with a no‑cost consultant available to conduct a full audit and identify reductions.
● Tiered busing efficiencies, which the Board of Education has been reviewing. The superintendent conducted a parent and teacher survey, and results are pending.
● An Early Retirement Incentive, previously implemented in 2016 and 2018, and now being requested by teachers and their union.
In addition, through strong advocacy, the Town will be receiving an increase of $136,000 in Education Cost Share (ECS) funding for this year. We have also received notification from the state that there are additional ECS special education reimbursement dollars.
With these identified savings and funding streams, we have surfaced opportunities that represent significant potential support for the Board of Education’s FY27 budget. As we move forward, collaboration is essential. We expect the Board of Education to fully evaluate each of these opportunities, provide updated end‑of‑year financial projections, and work closely with Town bodies to ensure that every available dollar is used effectively for students. Responsible stewardship requires transparency, partnership, and a willingness to pursue efficiencies wherever they exist.
We have done the work to identify these pathways. Now it is up to the Board of Education to determine whether they want to lean into these opportunities to strengthen their budget and maximize resources for students.
This budget reflects the balanced approach our residents expect—investing in what matters most while keeping Trumbull affordable and positioned for continued growth. It builds on the progress of the last several years by strengthening our schools, supporting public safety, and expanding our ability to grow the tax base. These are the foundations of a thriving community, and this plan moves Trumbull forward in a thoughtful, responsible way that reflects the priorities of the people we serve.

April 28, 2026 Update:
In November 2025, Trumbull voters considered a proposal to construct a new Senior and Community Center, but the referendum did not pass. To better understand residents’ priorities before any future proposal is developed, the Town Council in a bipartisan 19-1 vote passed a resolution at its February 2, 2026 meeting to commission an independent survey to be conducted by the Siena Research Institute/ReconMR. The cost of the survey is approximately $25,000. For further information about the cost of the survey, please see the Public Works Committee minutes from January 26, 2026, here: https://www.trumbull-ct.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Minutes/_01262026-5979 and the Town Council minutes from February 2, 2026, here: https://www.trumbull-ct.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Minutes/_02022026-5976
This survey will be conducted during the week of May 4, 2026. Residents may receive a call from a local 203 or 475 number, and any text message will come from 203‑780‑6798. All survey results will be publicly released, including a full presentation to the Town Council in June.
