Peacock reports that the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby horse race on May 2 from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ken., generated an average minute audience of 1.9 million — up 28% from 1.48 million last year.
NBCUniversal, which is currently in a NBCUniversal (NBCU) is currently in a public dispute with Nielsen, alleging the the data tracker reports inaccurate viewership tallies favoring streaming or legacy TV, says Peacock and NBC Sports “owned” the May 1-3 weekend.
Comcast recently spun-off its legacy TV networks to generate incremental value on Wall Street.
NBCU said Peacock together with NBC Sports generated a record total audience delivery (TAD) of 19.3 million, up 9% from 17.7 million last year. TAD aims to provide a unified view of viewership across all screens and platforms.
Separately, NBC Sports and Peacock saw record NBA Playoffs viewership, with the first round Game 7 between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics generating a TAD audience of 11 million, up from 6.8 million last year.
The two platforms continue with the “NBA Semifinals” through May 18, “The Preakness” horse race on May 16, “NBA Western Conference Finals” into June, and Spanish-language coverage of “FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026” soccer tournament June 11- July 19 on Telemundo and live-streamed on Peacock.
