Michigan football has one really good reason to be optimistic about its offense – GBMWolverine

One of the things Kyle Whittingham needs to fix in his first season as Michigan football head coach is an offense that ranked 69th in scoring.
With Bryce Underwood starting as a true freshman, the Wolverines had some decent moments on offense, but in their three regular-season losses, they scored a combined 35 points.
The defense wasn't always perfect. But in the Ohio State game, Michigan played well enough on defense to have a chance in the fourth quarter. The offense just couldn't score. Inexperience at the quarterback position, along with the lack of development, was a major problem.
Michigan also started three redshirt freshmen on the offensive line, as well as a true freshman at wide receiver. That's basically half the starting lineup. All of those guys are back this season. J.J. Buchanan, Salesi Moa, and former Texas wideout Jaime Ffrench have been added too. Moa is a freshman. Savion Hiter is, too, but the running back should play a big role, too.
The point is, Michigan football should be better on offense. Returning production is normally a good indicator of future performance. The Wolverines, according to CBS Sports, are ranked seventh in returning production on offense.
Some may say that's not great because the offense struggled. But with all of those freshmen expected to take a big leap forward, along with a better coaching staff, one that knows how to develop a five-star quarterback, the offense should be much improved.
The improvement of Underwood will be the key to the offense really taking off. Even if he just shows marginal improvement this season, the offense should take a big step forward, especially if Michigan is really going to use his legs moving forward, something it didn't do enough last season.
It was rough at times with a freshman, Bryce Underwood. However, those growing pains should pay off in 2026, especially with an offense that ranks top-10 in college football in returning production.
