BIRMINGHAM — EJ Crowell is on the mend for Alabama football.
The Crimson Tide freshman running back missed the majority of his first spring with an injury. He was seen wearing a boot and riding a scooter on his right leg at A-Day.
In his appearance at the Drummond Company Celebrity Pro-Am before the Regions Tradition Golf Tournament at Greystone Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Crowell is continuing to work his way back.
“I think by the time we get to June, we’ll be in a good spot,” DeBoer said. “That’s everything I’m hearing and feeling. That’s going to be really critical for him to get the summer in, not just from a workout standpoint but they run the player-run practices. Any reps for him will be good, quality ways for him to continue to improve in his development here especially early in his career.”
As a senior at Jackson High School, Crowell had 2,632 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns on 209 carries. In 2025, the Alabama run game that finished near the bottom of the SEC with 104.13 rushing guards per game and 3.35 yards per rush.
Alabama opens the 2026 season at home against East Carolina Saturday, Sept. 5.
