The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Amir Khan Muttaqi, the foreign minister of the Taliban, has emphasized cultural unity and historical ties between Afghanistan and the region, saying that Kabul aims to strengthen its international relations through sports diplomacy.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Muttaqi made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of participating countries following the conclusion of a traditional wrestling festival in Kabul.
He thanked foreign delegates for their participation in the event and highlighted efforts to facilitate visas and other arrangements for athletes.
The three-day sporting event, held in Kabul, brought together around 160 athletes from Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Türkiye. The competitions concluded with Uzbekistan winning in Kurash, Afghanistan in traditional wrestling, and Tajikistan in Kishtigiri.

Kabul Tribune is an independent and non-affiliated media outlet, established by a team of professional journalists, aiming to provide accurate and impartial reporting and to bring the silenced voices of Afghan women to the world.
