The Atlantic Sharks continued their recent domination with their biggest achievement of the flag football season so far.
On April 23, they held Space Coast without a single point in the District 9-1A finals, routing the Vipers 27-0 for their second consecutive championship.
Atlantic improved its record to 11-4. Its winning streak also stretched to five games, with the Sharks claiming those by a combined score of 180-26. They now have five shutouts this year.
Against No. 2 Space Coast, top-seeded Atlantic controlled both sides of the ball.
Junior Terriana Ammons led the offense. She accounted for four touchdowns, passing them to senior Essence Johnson, junior Nadiyah Kwaku and sophomore Santana Dixon and rushing for another. Ammons finished with 200 yards through the air and 73 on the ground.
Senior Reniyah Yan paced the defense with seven flag pulls and four sacks. Her three passes defended tied Dixon for a team high. Kwaku also grabbed an interception.
Before cruising past the Vipers, the Sharks beat No. 9 Orangewood Christian 58-6 in the district quarterfinals and No. 4 Cornerstone Charter Academy 26-7 in the semifinals.
Now, they’re guaranteed a spot in the state playoffs, which will kick off with the regional quarterfinals on April 28.
The FHSAA slotted Atlantic 124th in the state and seventh in Region 3-1A in the rankings released before districts on April 16.
