SAINT PAUL, Minn.?– Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed HF 1606, a bill banning ‘nudification’ technology, and permitting individuals who have been the victims of this technology to bring civil actions against those who unlawfully promote or allow the use of a nudification AI feature. The bill, authored by Representative Jess Hanson (DFL-Burnsville), passed on a vote of 132-1.
“No one should have to worry that nude images of themselves can be generated by AI, without their permission, at the push of a button. Governments around the world have failed to react quickly enough to the dangers of AI. But today, House DFLers are taking action to protect Minnesotans online,” said Rep. Hanson. “This bill would not have been possible without the brave victims who told their heartbreaking stories about this exploitative AI feature. Thank you for your advocacy.”
The House Public Information livestream of the debate and vote can be found here.
