Today’s Tech News and Reviews
Are you a big fan of NVMe SoftRAID solutions? Are you a big fan of the intense throughput capabilities of Thunderbolt 5 (and have a Thunderbolt 5 system)? Are you a fan of quality OWC products? If you answered yes to all of these, you are in luck. OWC has announced the release of its new OWC Express 4M2 Ultra NVMe RAID Enclosure, the latest generation of its NVMe RAID enclosure that supports TB5.
The new version of the company’s enclosure supports RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, or 10, as well as JBOD configurations. Allowing you to install up to four single-sided and double-sided M.2 2280/2242 NVMe drives inside. Thanks to Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, it will be capable of offering transfer speeds of up to 6,622 MB/s, providing everything you’d want out of a RAID enclosure with multiple drives inside.
This sounds like a great product for both professionals (ie, video editing/encoding, AI solutions, etc), as well as enthusiasts looking to get the most out of their storage, whether for app performance or diving into their favorite games. All you need is a Thunderbolt 5 port for the best results, while also supporting Thunderbolt 3 and 4, as well as USB4 (with potential speed drops).
It will be shipping in late Spring with an MSRP of $399 or $549 (depending on whether you want SoftRAID included or not), and OWC is already taking orders on its website now, in case you want to be one of the first to get your hands on one. I’m sure we will likely get around to testing one of these, so we’ll likely be circling back to this in the near future to let you know what we think.
