Jessica Chastain’s Apple TV show will finally see the light of day after it was postponed by the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The Savant, a political thriller starring Chastain as an investigator fighting domestic terrorism, was set to premiere in September 2025, but was pulled after Kirk, a conservative commentator, was killed while speaking at Utah Valley University that month.
Now, Chastain has told Variety that the streamer will go ahead with releasing the series on the platform.
“Before it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to see it,’” the 49-year-old Oscar winner told the outlet Saturday at the Breakthrough Prize ceremony. “But now I can say, ‘We’re going to see it.’”
Apple is reportedly planning to release the show in July, according to Variety. The streamer did not immediately return The Independent’s request for comment.
Created by Melissa James Gibson, the show stars Chastain, Nnamdi Asomugha, Dagmara Domińczyk, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley and Toussaint Francois Battiste.
A synopsis for the show states: “The tense and thrilling series follows an undercover investigator known as ‘The Savant’ (Jessica Chastain) as she infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act.”
When Apple TV announced the show had been postponed, the platform said in a statement: “After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”

After the announcement, Chastain — who served as an executive producer on the show — released a statement saying that she disagreed with the decision.
“I wanted to reach out and let you know that we’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant,” she said, in part, in an Instagram post the next day. “I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is.”
She went on to say that violent incidents in the United States “illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted.”
“I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is,” she said. “The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever.”
She concluded, “While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon. Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when The Savant is released.”
