The Asian action film Assassin has arrived on VOD and digital platforms, with TVBrittanyF.com having a sneak peek at one of the movie’s big fight sequences.
Fans of Asian cinema will want to check out Assassin, the latest movie from director Jiuquin Zhou. TVBrittanyF.com has an exclusive look at one of the film’s action-packed fight sequences, when a high-profile event turns into a violent affair.
Assassin takes place in the 1930s, when the city of Shanghai was divided and China as a whole was in deep conflict with Japan. With this tension as a backdrop, Zhou and screenwriter Lin Huang follow Mubai, an elite fighter who has been recruited as the titular assassin. He is essentially tasked with serving as a one-man army, fighting his way through all kinds of obstacles and enemies in hopes of getting to a critical Japanese target.
Assassin‘s story utilizes real history: in early 1932, Japanese forces bombed Shanghai, starting a violent conflict known as the “January 28 incident” or “the Shanghai incident.” Later on in 1937, Japan full-out invaded Shanghai and the city fell in what is called the “Battle of Shanghai,” These hostilities actually lasted over three months, with the death toll estimated to be in six figures. It was the single largest battle of the Second Sino-Japanese War.
What happens in Assassin is fictional, but the movie mixes political and social intrigue with the kind of fast-paced action that Asian movie fans know and love. Mubai isn’t just fighting for his own survival; the actions he takes will affect his entire country, assuming that he lives long enough to finish his mission.
Our exclusive clip highlights just how chaotic—and massive—the film gets, as Zhou turns what seems like a joyous occasion into a giant shootout. Click to watch the video below; the full film is now available on digital and VOD platforms.
