Washington D.C. – With Donald Trump’s unceremonious announcement that Casey Means has been replaced as his nominee for Surgeon General, Kayla Hancock, Director of Protect Our Care’s Public Health Project, issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump and RFK Jr. desperately wanted an unqualified, science-denying grifter to be the nation’s leading public health educator, perhaps after looking in the mirror. No one pushed harder for Means’ nomination than fellow anti-vax charlatan RFK Jr., which is more of a reflection of his own incompetence and lack of qualifications that have put public health at risk every day.  If the third Surgeon General nominee this term is indeed the charm, it’s critical she follows her medical training – not RFK Jr.’s fact-free anti-vax whims — and strongly advocates for proven safe and effective vaccines and sound science.  With the megaphone of Surgeon General, Dr. Saphier could do much to help reverse the downward trend in vaccination rates that RFK Jr. has encouraged with misinformation, that is, if Donald Trump would even allow it.”
