People really enjoyed the chance to connect and learn at last year’s event and felt energized and refreshed. I hope to see many of our neighbors on April 29th so we can all share a good laugh!”
Open to Dutchess County residents age 60 and older, “Spring Into Happiness: Laughter Edition” will feature nationally recognized humorous motivational speaker Charles Marshall, whose interactive presentation blends humor and insight to promote emotional well-being and healthy aging. Light refreshments will be served.
Research has consistently shown laughter can play a meaningful role in overall health by reducing stress, relaxing muscles, lowering blood pressure and increasing oxygen flow throughout the body. Studies also suggest humor can support heart health, enhance learning and improve short-term memory. Even simple forms of humor, such as wordplay, for example, encourage the brain to think in new and flexible ways.
Last year’s “Spring Into Happiness” event drew hundreds of older adults, who enjoyed the entertainment and practical benefits. This year’s event is sponsored, in part, by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.
The Dutchess County Office for the Aging provides services to help older adults and those needing long-term care live better, more independent lives. The OFA offers many programs that focus on fitness, fun and meeting new people, all with the goal of helping seniors stay healthy, active and connected to their community.
