Nemours Children\u2019s Hospital is expanding its maternal fetal health offerings with a new fetal care center.\u00a0\u00a0
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on April 7\u00a0at Nemours\u2019 Rockland campus\u00a0to celebrate the\u00a0new\u00a0addition,\u00a0which expands the hospital\u2019s existing\u00a0Maternal and Fetal Health Program<\/a>\u00a0under the Institute for Maternal Fetal Health,\u00a0launched in December<\/a>.
Other program offerings will include a new Advanced Delivery Unit, Psychosocial Support Program and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit extension, set to complete later this year.\u00a0
The\u00a0Institute for Maternal Fetal Health includes\u00a0Delaware\u2019s first surgical fetal care center, according to Nemours, providing a combination of prenatal,\u00a0fetal\u00a0and neonatal services in one space.\u00a0It emphasizes the importance of prenatal diagnosis and therapy, with aims to expand Nemours\u2019 utero diagnostic and surgical interventions.\u00a0
The\u00a0facility\u00a0will open to patients on April 13.\u00a0\u00a0
Nemours President and CEO R. Lawrence Moss said the\u00a0institute\u00a0is designed to\u00a0holistically support the mental and physical health of patients as serious illnesses are navigated.\u00a0\u00a0
The expansion focuses on keeping mothers and babies close together as they receive care, with the Level IV NICU and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit\u00a0located\u00a0within 100 feet\u00a0of\u00a0where\u00a0mothers receive care. Patients\u00a0can\u00a0receive prenatal diagnoses, imaging, fetal treatments while pregnant, deliver their\u00a0babies\u00a0and get specialized newborn care after birth \u2013 all without\u00a0changing\u00a0facilities.\u00a0\u00a0
The\u00a0institute\u00a0features a 12-bed labor and delivery unit that includes three fetal operating rooms. It is equipped to care for\u00a0patients during all stages of pregnancy.

“This is a new paradigm of care that we brought to the Delaware Valley,\u201d said Dr. Katherine Deans, senior vice president and enterprise surgeon-in-chief at Nemours. \u201cWe know that the best outcomes for a child and their health are if we are able to diagnose it early and treat it early with a multidisciplinary team.\u201d\u00a0
