Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards <a href=\"https:\/\/wanaen.com\/irgc-condemns-attack-on-kuwaiti-desalination-facilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blamed<\/a> Israel for attacking Kuwaiti power and desalination facilities. The United Arab Emirates <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/live\/iran-war-israel-trump-04-03-2026#0000019d-52b8-d22f-ad9f-53bb90ce0000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">closed<\/a> a set of gas facilities following a reported fire caused by debris from an intercepted missile. More than a month into the war, U.S. intelligence suggests around half of Iran\u2019s missile launchers remain intact, unnamed sources <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/02\/politics\/iran-missiles-us-military-strikes-trump?Date=20260402&amp;Profile=CNN&amp;utm_content=1775173220&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> CNN.<\/span><br \/><span><strong>War crimes accusations. <\/strong>Amnesty International yesterday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2026\/04\/iran-recruitment-of-child-soldiers-as-young-as-12-amounts-to-a-war-crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accused<\/a> Iran of child recruitment\u2014a war crime\u2014saying it had sought to draw children as young as twelve into its war effort. Separately, U.S.-based international law experts published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justsecurity.org\/135423\/professors-letter-international-law-iran-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">joint letter<\/a> yesterday saying the conduct of all three parties in the war\u2014Israel, Iran, and the United States\u2014raises concerns of \u201cserious violations of international law,\u201d and pointing to U.S. actions they said could amount to war crimes.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span><strong>Hormuz diplomacy. <\/strong>At the UN Security Council yesterday, China, France, and Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/02\/world\/middleeast\/arab-iran-hormuz-force.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">objected<\/a> to draft resolution language that would sanction military force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. A vote is expected in the coming days. Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are preparing a framework to monitor transit through the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian state media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/02\/iran-war-oman-hormuz-strait.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> yesterday.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span><strong>Military shakeup.<\/strong> Even as the U.S. offensive presses ahead\u2014with thousands of additional troops being <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/iran-war-us-troops-deployment-aircraft-carrier-7c015aa5156525fcc95c42897de52e0f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">deployed<\/a> to the Middle East\u2014its military leadership faces an overhaul at home. Three U.S. generals were reportedly removed yesterday. A Defense Department spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SeanParnellASW\/status\/2039812664902271107?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> the departure of General Randy A. George, the former army chief of staff, without citing an explanation. Lindsay in an <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/articles\/president-trumps-iran-address-left-critical-questions-unanswered\"><strong>Expert Take<\/strong><\/a><\/span><br \/><span><strong>Trump consolidates metals tariffs\u2026 <\/strong>The White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2026\/04\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-strengthens-tariffs-on-steel-aluminum-and-copper-imports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> yesterday it was updating the way it calculates aluminum, copper, and steel tariffs. Goods made with those metals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/02\/business\/economy\/trump-metal-pharmaceutical-tariffs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">will receive<\/a> either a flat 50 percent or 25 percent tariff depending on their metal content, and be tariff-free if the metals constitute less than 15 percent of the product. Previously, metals products were also subject to additional tariffs based on the source countries of their ingredients other than aluminum, copper, and steel.<\/span><br \/><span><strong>\u2026and announces new drug tariffs. <\/strong>A new 100 percent tariff on patented drug products will take effect in either 120 or 180 days depending on the size of importing companies, the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2026\/04\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-bolsters-national-security-and-strengthens-u-s-supply-chains-by-imposing-tariffs-on-patented-pharmaceutical-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> separately. It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cx29kke01gpo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">added<\/a> that companies can avoid the tariff by pledging to increase manufacturing in the United States or negotiating deals with the U.S. government to lower prices. Generic drugs, which make up the majority of pharmaceutical imports to the United States, are exempt. Some countries with existing U.S. trade deals will see a lower 15 percent tariff rate.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span><strong>Trump removes Attorney General. <\/strong>Attorney General Pam Bondi is leaving her post, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/116336247856387679\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> on social media yesterday without an explanation. She is the second cabinet member fired by Trump in under a month and will be temporarily replaced by her deputy. Trump had complained to aides that Bondi did not move fast enough to prosecute his political adversaries, multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/us-news\/law\/trump-ousts-attorney-general-pam-bondi-9874b02d?mod=WSJ_home_mediumtopper_pos_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/02\/us\/politics\/trump-fires-bondi-attorney-general.html?smid=url-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">outlets<\/a> reported.
