{"id":6071,"date":"2026-04-01T22:24:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T22:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globalnewstoday.uk\/index.php\/2026\/04\/01\/vaping-likely-to-cause-lung-and-oral-cancer-health-policy-watch\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T22:24:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T22:24:07","slug":"vaping-likely-to-cause-lung-and-oral-cancer-health-policy-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalnewstoday.uk\/index.php\/2026\/04\/01\/vaping-likely-to-cause-lung-and-oral-cancer-health-policy-watch\/","title":{"rendered":"Vaping Likely To Cause Lung And Oral Cancer &#8211; Health Policy Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vaping is likely to cause oral and lung cancer, according to a comprehensive review of over 100 studies of the effects of nicotine-based e-cigarettes, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1093\/carcin\/bgag015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published this week in the journal, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carcinogenesis<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carcinogenicity was evident in human studies that monitored biomarkers of harm, including DNA damage, oxidative stress, and \u201cepigenetic change and inflammation in oral and respiratory tissue\u201d, according to the researchers, who hail from a range of Australian universities.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, studies on mice showed that they developed lung tumours after exposure to vape aerosols.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The researchers focused on studies from 2017 of people who only used nicotine-based e-cigarettes or on studies that compared smokers and vapers, and excluded studies that involved people who used both tobacco and e-cigarettes.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThough direct epidemiological evidence of cancer causation takes time to accumulate, carcinogenicity of e-cigarettes is evident from different types of investigation,\u201d the study concluded.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;To our knowledge, this review is the most definitive determination that those who vape are at increased risk of cancer compared to those who don&#8217;t,&#8221; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/sdfe\/pdf\/download\/eid\/1-s2.0-S1877782125002012\/first-page-pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to co-author Bernard Stewart <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the University of New South Wales.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1877782125002012?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">commentary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published alongside the research, Stewart and co-author Freddy Sitas note that it took a long time before the harms of smoking were recognised.
