Nathan Davis Jr. may be a singer and actor, but he hasn\u2019t had it easy.
In the span of three years, he lost 14 family members, including his little brother to suicide. He endured that very dark time but continued on with courage and strength from God.
\u201cI went into a deep depression. I always [thought that if I became successful \u2014 if I made enough money \u2014 my family would be safe. I thought success would somehow protect them],\u201d he said<\/a>, per the “Jesus Calling” podcast.
\u201c[But when everything happened, I found myself asking],\u00a0What\u2019s the point of working? What\u2019s the point of any of this?<\/em>\u00a0The people I wanted to share this with [were] all leaving,\u201d he continued<\/a>.
He felt purposeless and gave up.
\u201cI stopped posting on social media,\u201d he explained<\/a>. \u201cI [wasn\u2019t auditioning anymore]. I was stress eating,<\/em> gaining weight [and feeling overwhelmed].\u201d
\u201cI didn\u2019t care about anything. I was out at clubs, [just living recklessly]. I [had the mindset of],\u00a0Whatever happens to me, happens<\/em>,\u201d he said<\/a>.

Then one day, he heard God speak after he called out to him, in a place of deep pain.
\u201cAnd for the first time, I [had] a spiritual encounter with God. He came into my room, hugged me and [told me] He loved me,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cI had never heard God\u2019s voice before, and when [it happened], I [knew] this was different.\u201d
Davis felt reassured that God was with him. He got better and started working again. Then one day, he heard his voice again.
\u201cGod [said], \u2018I want you to make music for Me.\u2019 And I [said], \u2018[But I just finished an] amazing R&B album. Are You sure You want me to let this go? This is great music.\u2019 But He [told me], \u2018I\u2019m going to take you further than you\u2019ve ever been before.\u2019\u201d
\u201cI started [making] Christian remixes, and they instantly [went] viral. [Usually] when you switch up your style on social media, it takes [time] for people to [adjust],” he said<\/a>. “I went from doing comedy and [entertainment] to [making] serious, inspirational [music], [and it immediately connected],\u201d he recalled.
He knows that his music is changing people\u2019s lives \u2014 they tell him, and he can see it. He knows he\u2019s following God\u2019s call.
\u201cGod has been carrying me the whole time,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s all Him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
