Kaleidescape, the industry’s leading provider of high-fidelity movies and high-performance movie streaming devices, is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Since 2001, the company has excelled in providing movie lovers with the best-looking and sounding movies. It’s a remarkable milestone when you consider that over that time, the company flirted with its survivability as the industry initially strongly resisted the idea of allowing homes across America to copy digital copies of movies to home servers.

In 2001, Michael Malcolm, Cheena Srinifasan, and Dan Collens came together to create something that didn’t exist in the industry at that time: a home-based movie server that stored and served customers copied DVD content on-demand in home theaters (and throughout the home). It would be a bumpy ride to the ultimate success the company enjoys today. As I alluded to above, the movie industry pushed back, believing a service that copies DVD content to be served across networks was a potential piracy nightmare. A legal challenge was launched that lasted for no less than ten years and resulted in a negotiated settlement that kept Kaleidescape alive, albeit with a different operating process.
Battle wounds behind them, today most integrators believe that Kaleidescape is the best way to serve a wide range of the finest movies with reference-grade visuals and the highest fidelity sound in the industry.

In their announcement of the anniversary, the company noted that in 25 years, their commitment has never wavered: “Kaleidescape’s commitment to uncompromising fidelity has driven advances in lossless multi-channel audio, full reference video, and scalable home-server architectures that preserve each title’s original artistic intent.”
Even some elite members of Hollywood royalty recognize and praise Kaleidescape’s achievements. No less than Director Martin Scorsese said, “Kaleidescape has been essential for me, for many years now.
