Ray\u2019s Apple Market has installed new electric vehicle charging stations, aimed at serving both local drivers and visitors passing through the area.
Store representative Aaron Floersch said the decision was driven by demand. \u201cI\u2019ve had numerous requests for them, actually, and primarily from out-of-town people visiting family in town\u201d.
Floersch confirmed the chargers are already active. \u201cYes, they\u2019re already installed and live\u2026 there\u2019s three of them\u201d. The stations are Level 2 chargers, typically providing a full charge in about an hour and a half depending on the vehicle.
The chargers were installed by a third party, Property One, which is leasing the spaces from the store. The Clay Center installation also received electrical service support from Clay Center Public Utilities.
The chargers cost about $0.36 per kilowatt-hour, consistent with industry averages ranging from $0.30 to $0.60. A nearly depleted 100 kilowatt-hour battery would cost around $36 to recharge.
Floersch said similar chargers are also available at the company\u2019s Council Grove location.
Floersch said the chargers were selected because they appear on Tesla\u2019s national map. \u201cThey say 95% of users use this map\u201d.
The stations are part of a broader effort to support travel and bring more visitors into the community.
