A home-grown Spanish supermarket <\/strong>group has climbed to the top of the global grocery pecking order, not by being the biggest, but by being the most profitable. <\/span>
It is now also among the world\u2019s strongest brands<\/strong> and the only Spanish name in the top 10 for brand strength <\/strong>in the Brand Finance Global 500 2026 ranking<\/strong>. The supermarket has a coveted AAA+ rating<\/strong> shared by just 37 brands worldwide.<\/span>
The supermarket in question is Mercadona<\/strong><\/a>, based in Valencia and now firmly established as Spain\u2019s biggest supermarket chain. 
In its latest full financial year, the company reported net profits<\/a> of around \u20ac1.73 billion<\/strong>, after boosting its bottom line by roughly 25%<\/strong> in just twelve months \u2013 the highest level of profitability<\/strong> in the chain\u2019s history.
In its most recent results, Mercadona reported:
The company has also shared more than \u20ac1 billion<\/strong> with staff through performance-related bonuses, wage rises linked to inflation and better working hours.
