He\u2019s already made his stance clear on that. Even after we get clear extensive video of the guy trying to knife the police officers in Queens, he visited the criminal&#8217;s family in that case too!,\u201d raged the police veteran.<br \/>He was referring to Mamdani last month visiting the family of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/04\/us-news\/heart-pounding-bodycam-footage-shows-moment-nypd-cop-shoots-knife-wielding-man\/\">Jabez Chakraborty<\/a>, the man shot by a police officer in Queens as he attacked the cop and his partner with a 13-inch carving knife.<br \/>\u201cHe can go visit the inmates at Rikers, but he can\u2019t go visit a cop who gets injured?&nbsp;That&#8217;s not right,\u201d said another law enforcement source, referring to cops&nbsp;hurt earlier this month responding to an <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/08\/us-news\/self-radicalized-isis-supporters-used-explosive-called-mother-of-satan-inside-bombs-thrown-at-gracie-mansion-protest-sources\/\">ISIS-inspired attempted terrorist attack<\/a> outside the mayor&#8217;s home at Gracie Mansion.<br \/>\u201cI think next year there&#8217;ll be nobody to visit because he\u2019s going to let everybody out of jail. Maybe he was going there to tell them we\u2019re reducing everybody\u2019s sentences,\u201d the source said.<br \/>The visit was one of the 17 iftar, or breaking of the fast, dinners the mayor attended across NYC through Thursday and is the first time a NYC mayor has celebrated Ramadan at Rikers.<br \/>\u201cPeople sharing what little they have: breaking bread, offering prayer, making space for one another\u2019s dignity even in the hardest place,&#8221; Mamdani wrote on X, posting photos alongside Department of Correction Commissioner Stanley Richards, gladhanding with dozens of detainees as they gobbled packaged meals.<br \/>Mamdani and Richards were also joined on Rikers by Councilman Yusef Salaam (D-Manhattan), a practicing Muslim and one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2014\/09\/05\/judge-signs-off-on-41m-central-park-five-settlement\/\">\u201cCentral Park Five\u201d who were exonerated <\/a>in the infamous 1989 rape on a jogger.<br \/>NYC-based mystery novelist Daniel Friedman was among the many questioning Mamdani\u2019s priorities.<br \/>&#8220;You have to be an absolute monster to be sent to Rikers Island these days,\u201d he wrote on X.<br \/>&#8220;Offenders on Rikers all have long histories of doing things so horrible that even the woke, pro-crime judges and prosecutors in NYC don\u2019t want to be responsible for what they\u2019ll do if they let them go.\u201d<br \/>Sam Antar, a convicted fraudster and former CFO of electronics store Crazy Eddie said Mamdani elevated criminals at the expense of victims. <br \/>\u201cIf you commit a violent crime in NYC, Zohran Mamdani has your back,\u201d he wrote on X,.<br \/>The Mayor&#8217;s office didn&#8217;t respond to the criticism, but the DOC said there was &#8220;no cost to taxpayers for food.
