South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace <\/a>is facing an onslaught of mockery after unveiling a bill to halt the supposed federal funding of \u201ctransgender mice.\u201d <\/a>
Mace, 48, recently announced the \u201cTRANS MICE Act\u201d on X,<\/a> writing, \u201cAnimals should not be used for radical transgender experiments. This is not science. This is ideological cruelty paid for by the American taxpayers.\u201d
Her post included an image of a mouse touching a human hand and the words: \u201cNO TRANS MICE.\u201d
\u201cOur TRANS MICE Act ends it. No federal funds may be used to conduct, support, or fund research aimed at altering an animal\u2019s biological sex,\u201d Mace wrote. \u201cNo hormones. No surgeries. No taxpayer dollars spent mutilating animals in the name of transgender ideology.\u201d
However, her post was quickly amended with a community note suggesting she misunderstood the research surrounding \u201ctrans mice,\u201d which refers to transgenic mice \u2014 not transgender mice.
\u201c\u2018Trans mice\u2019 refers to transgenic mice, not transgender mice. Transgenic mice are defined as mice that have incorporated foreign DNA into their genome, allowing for the study of gene function and disease mechanisms, particularly in cancer research,\u201d the community note read.
However, Mace pushed back on the fact check, insisting that she wasn\u2019t talking about transgenic mice but \u201cfederally funded transgender-related experiments on animals.\u201d
\u201cThis post is not about transgenic mice. It is about federally funded transgender-related experiments on animals,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThe bill is called the Transgender Research on Animals Now Stops and Money for Ideological Cruelty Eliminated Act, also known as the TRANS MICE Act.\u201d
While Mace stood behind her \u201ctrans mice\u201d claims, the Internet had a field day correcting the South Carolina MAGA Republican \u2014 and roasting her ridiculous claims.
\u201cTransgenic mice are laboratory animals that have had foreign DNA, such as a human gene or a specific genetic marker, artificially inserted into their genome. They are used for scientific testing,\u201d journalist Molly Jong-Fast explained. <\/a>
Political strategist Mike Nellis chimed in, writing,<\/a> \u201cThe dumbest member of Congress, which is really saying something.\u201d
Another X user added: <\/a>\u201cThis soon to be former member of Congress does not understand that the studies refer to TRANSGENIC mice. Not turning mice transgender.\u201d
\u201cAs someone who works with transgenic mouse models for cancer research, this is objectively one of the funniest things I\u2019ve seen a real life politician post,\u201d another X user wrote. <\/a>
Another X user added:<\/a> \u201cIts transgenic mice you insufferable peon of unimaginable stupidity.\u201d
