(WSET) \u2014 <\/span>Senator Kaine says the Memorandum of Understanding outlines several specific provisions while acknowledging that negotiations are far from over.
He believes that the U.S. would give up way more to receive way less. Nonetheless, it's clear that Kaine is ready to close this chapter in U.S. history.
"The war was foolish and illegal, so an off-ramp to this war is something that is good," Senator Kaine said in a Zoom interview today. "We just have to make sure if we've taken an off-ramp that we don't allow the president to blender us back into a war we shouldn't be in. And I'll keep insisting that my colleagues vote on this to tell him, 'Don't come back to war without coming to Congress.'"

Senator Kaine wants Congress to have a say before any future military action. He has consistently pushed for stronger enforcement of the War Powers Resolution, arguing that decisions involving armed conflict should not rest solely with the executive branch.
He also emphasized that diplomacy, not escalation, is the key to preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
Kaine said sustained negotiations backed by international partners remain the most effective way to limit nuclear proliferation risks.
He added that diplomatic channels offer a more stable path forward than military confrontation.
