The department of pharmacy at Southeast University organised a workshop on \u2018Genetic and Clinical Data Management\u2019 under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation project to strengthen research capacity in biomedical sciences and improve data management practices recently.
The workshop was part of the fourth-quarter activities of the university\u2019s research project on future pandemic management, said a press release on Tuesday.
Vice-chancellor Professor Yusuf Mahbubul Islam attended the programme as chief guest, while pro-vice-chancellor Professor Md Mofazzal Hossain was present as special guest.
Professor Muhammad Nazir Hossain delivered the keynote presentation, highlighting the ethical and technical challenges of managing genetic data. He stressed the need for secure, systematic and efficient data storage to support quality research.
The workshop was coordinated by Associate Professor Nusratun Nahar, sub-project manager of the HEAT Project, with support from Israt Jahan Bulbul, chairman of pharmacy department, Assistant Professor Yasmin Begum, Abdullah Al Hasan, assistant professor and financial manager of the project; and Sadia Uzma Siddika, administrative officer of the project.
Among others, Asaduzzaman, project director of the HEAT project, Md Asaduzzaman, sub-project director and Hasnat M Alamgir of the ATF secretariat attended.
Around 40 students interested in research took part in the programme, which concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session and a commitment to advancing genetics and medical research.
