Derby<br \/>NEW YORK, May 14 (Reuters) \u2013 Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams said on Thursday he does not see a need right \u200bnow for the central bank to weigh any change \u200cin interest rate policy amid the uncertainty created by the Middle East war.<br \/>Monetary policy is in a \u201cgood place\u201d right now, the official said in New York.<br \/>\u201cI don\u2019t see there\u2019s any reason at all to raise rates \u200cright \u200bnow or lower rates right now,\u201d Williams \u2060said.<br \/>The central banker spoke \u2060before a gathering held by the Conference of Business Economists and largely reiterated comments made in a series of recent remarks.<br \/>He said keeping inflation expectations steady is important and while \u200bit is not surprising short-term expectations have risen, longer-term projections have been stable, which is a good thing.<br \/>Williams said \u2060he believed much of the impact \u2060on inflation from tariffs had already happened, but \u200bhe was watching to see how price pressures develop.<br \/>With inflation expectations \u200bholding in and\u00a0the job market not pushing price pressures \u200cup, \u201cwe\u2019re not seeing\u2026unusual second-round effects or persistent effects. But we just have to keep watching,\u201d the official said.<br \/>Williams also said the strength of the stock market was not a surprise given \u2060what investors think about the economy\u2019s outlook.<br \/>\u201cThere is optimism about higher productivity growth going forward, partly AI and other things,\u201d Williams said. \u201cIt\u2019s not \u2060surprising that the \u200cstock market\u2019s high\u201d given how \u201cbullish\u201d people are \u2060about the future of the economy.<br \/>Investors currently expect \u200bno \u200cchange in what is now a federal funds \u200btarget rate \u2060range of between 3.5% and 3.75% over coming months.<br \/>The Middle East war has caused price pressures to spike, but it is unclear how long those pressures will persist given the unresolved nature of the conflict.<br \/>(Reporting by Michael S.
