The book argues that using the framework of a new divide in the international landscape between big-thinking \u201carchitects\u201d and the more adaptive \u201cartisans\u201d will be essential to understanding contemporary power and its application.<br \/><strong>Anatol Lieven<\/strong>, director of the Eurasia Program at the Quincy Institute, will host <strong>Mark Leonard<\/strong>, co-founder and director of the European Council on Foreign Relations, to discuss his book and its implications and recommendations for the 21st century\u2019s greatest geopolitical contests.\u00a0<br \/>The conversation will take place on <strong>Wednesday, June 3rd from 1:00 &#8211; 2:00 PM ET.<\/strong><br \/>Mark Leonard is co-founder and director of the European Council on Foreign Relations, the first pan-European think\u2013tank. His topics of focus include geopolitics and geoeconomics, China, EU politics and institutions. Leonard is a member of the UK Soft Power Council and the UK Foreign Secretary\u2019s External Foreign Policy Board. Leonard hosts the weekly podcast \u201cMark Leonards\u2019s World in 30 Minutes\u201d and writes a syndicated column on global affairs for Project Syndicate. Previously he worked as director of foreign policy at the Centre for European Reform and as director of the Foreign Policy Centre, a think-tank he founded at the age of 24 under the patronage of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.<br \/>Anatol Lieven is the director of the Eurasia Program and the Andrew Bacevich chair in American Diplomatic History at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. He was formerly a professor at Georgetown University in Qatar and in the War Studies Department of King\u2019s College London. He also served as a member of the advisory committee of the South Asia Department of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and of the academic board of the Valdai discussion club in Russia. He holds a B.A. and Ph.D. in history and political science from Cambridge University in England.
