The Civil Rights Division is examining whether parents were informed of available opt\u2011out provisions and whether district policies align with federal law, including Title IX and recent court decisions addressing parental rights.  <br \/>\u201cSupreme Court precedent leaves no doubt: parents have the fundamental right and primary authority to direct the care, upbringing, and education of their children,\u201d said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon of the DOJ&#8217;s Civil Rights Division. \u201cThis includes exempting their children from ideological instruction that contradicts their values or decisions about their children\u2019s health and best interests.\u201d  <br \/>The inquiry is also reviewing policies related to facility access and participation in school programs. State officials acknowledged awareness of the investigation but did not provide additional comment.
