Chris Packham<\/a> has criticised world leaders for showing \u201cincredible stupidity\u201d in ignoring Sir David Attenborough\u2019s warnings to tackle the climate crisis.
The 64-year old, who followed in Sir David\u2019s footsteps and became an environmentalist and documentarian, shared that Sir David felt leaders forgot the concerns he raised at Glasgow\u2019s Cop26<\/a> in 2021.
During the climate summit, Sir David made an impassioned speech in which he warned an audience of 120 world leaders that they must \u201cturn tragedy to triumph\u201d and reverse rising carbon levels in the atmosphere.
Speaking to the Big Issue<\/a> magazine, Packham said Sir David felt everyone \u201cwoke up the following morning and forgot\u201d.
He said: \u201cThere\u2019s a real sense of sadness and injustice.
\u201cBecause when the world\u2019s leading science communicator is given a platform like that and they tell the truth, it shows incredible stupidity and ignorance for world leaders to ignore him.
\u201cIt is a total failure in their duty.\u201d
He went on to describe how Sir David became more outspoken on climate change after reaching a \u201ctipping point\u201d.
Packham said: \u201cIt was probably a very personal thing, we all have those moments in our lives where all of a sudden we wake up and we\u2019ve got to change.
\u201cLike myself, he\u2019s compelled to tell the truth. So he doesn\u2019t mince his words. He speaks very forthrightly about issues.\u201d
Packham praised the environmentalist for his influence in engaging the public to love \u201call life on earth\u201d.
He added: \u201cNo person in the entire history of our species has made such a significant contribution to engaging people and developing a love for all life on earth as David Attenborough.
\u201cI have such a huge respect for him. Obviously. But I never expected it to be reciprocated. Why should it be? I\u2019m the pupil, he\u2019s the mentor.\u201d
