Byron<\/b> Donalds<\/b> will be in Pinellas County on Saturday to make what his campaign is describing as a policy announcement.
The Donalds campaign for Governor is stopping at Caddy\u2019s in Treasure Island, located at 9000 W. Gulf Blvd. The event begins at 10:30 a.m.
Donalds, who currently represents Florida\u2019s 19th Congressional District, is expected to roll out an insurer scorecard, which would make Florida the first in the nation to list price, claims and insurer performance together in a single comparison tool.
Donalds will be joined by U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna<\/b>, whose district includes Treasure Island, state Rep. Kim<\/b> Berfield<\/b>, and Pinellas County Tax Collector Adam<\/b> Ross<\/b>. Like Donalds, they are all Republicans.
The stop is part of Donalds\u2019 Defending the Florida Dream Tour<\/a><\/strong>, a series of rallies and meet-and-greets meant to engage voters in conversations about issues that matter most to the Sunshine State.
Donalds, who is running to succeed Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/b> as he faces term limits, is the far and away front-runner in the GOP Primary. A recent survey<\/a><\/strong> from The Tarrance Group found about half of voters supported Donalds in the GOP Primary for Governor, while all other candidates landed in single digits, including hedge fund investor and conservative firebrand James<\/b> Fishback<\/b>, Lt. Gov. Jay Collins<\/b>, Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett<\/b> and former House Speaker Paul<\/b> Renner<\/b>.
Donalds also leads polling in a hypothetical General Election against either former U.S. Rep. David Jolly<\/strong> or Orange County Mayor Jerry<\/strong> Demings<\/strong>, though both are polling competitively. In a recent poll from Echelon Insights<\/a><\/strong>, Donalds led Jolly 49% to 43% and Demings 48% to 44%. Both results were within the poll\u2019s 6-percentage-point margin of error.
Meanwhile, DeSantis\u2019 top pollster, Ryan Tyson<\/strong>, said that while it\u2019s statistically improbable that a Democrat could win a statewide race in Florida, the political climate this year now means \u201cit\u2019s no longer impossible<\/a><\/strong>.\u201d He predicted Jolly winning the Democratic Primary and providing a competitive race against Donalds, though still favors Donalds thanks to a significant rightward shift among Florida\u2019s voting population.
Donalds\u2019 announcement comes after another earlier this month, in which he unveiled his LaunchPad workforce initiative<\/a> <\/strong>aimed at reducing bureaucracy, expanding apprenticeships and connecting employees to high-wage employment opportunities that don\u2019t require a college degree.
