NEWS CHRONICLE FILE PHOTO
After months of ups and downs, the supervisors approved a plan of decertification for Tama County Home Health at this week’s Tama County Supervisors meeting. Supervisor Curt Hilmer talked about the decision and the last Public Health meeting he attended.
“The nurses pretty much made their statement or their feelings, and after that it was kind of a… and losing Stacy doesn’t help,” he said.
Hilmer addressed Tama County Public Health Director Stacy Koeppen, saying, “I wish you luck, you did great, I appreciate what you’ve done.”
Hilmer went on to state about the past, making the bed for the decision.
“Basically, now what we’re covering is exactly what this board asked us to cover in the first place. I mean, if you guys recall,” Tama County Public Health Board Member Richard Arp said.
Koeppen clarified that among the sliding fee patients and the Meskwaki people, they added in the VA people, since medicare certification isn’t needed to help them.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Doland asked what the catalyst was to decertify. Koeppen stated that the reason was staff; the two remaining nurses would have to be on call 24/7.
“So, you know, as a board member, I hate to have to go this route. I hate to stop giving services to people in Tama County, but we just can’t do it,” Arp said.
The supervisors approved the new budget for Tama County Public and Home Health, with Supervisor David Turner Abstaining. When asked why he abstained, Turner explained. “Because I’m sitting in a parking lot in Italy, waiting for this meeting to be done, and I don’t have the papers sitting in front of me, and so I’m abstaining because I have other concerns, but I will address them when I get back,” he said.
The meeting started with an update from the interim engineer about all things roads. The imminent start of the Toledo Bridge project to other projects that are on the horizon were discussed.
The supervisors also sat through the yearly renewal presentation by North Risk Partners insurance. A hearing was held on the proposed FY27 budget, with no comments from the public. The supervisors approved a resolution to adopt the FY27 budget.
The Auditor’s Quarterly Report was approved. A resolution listing the Homebase Iowa Qualifications was approved.
The annual Vienna TIF Fund to Debt Service Fund transfer was approved. Non-departmental claims totaling $5,168 and claims totaling $166,479.38 were approved.
Danny Robinson’s smiling face was the first thing everyone saw when they went to this week’s Tama City Council …
Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox
Copyright © Tama-Toledo News Chronicle | https://www.tamatoledonews.com | 220 W.
