But we do have some\u00a0really good\u00a0excuses!\u00a0<br \/>Excuse number one: on the new moon in April, the spring clam worm hatch occurs. These are little worms, about an inch or so in length, that inundate our creeks in massive numbers.\u00a0It seems that the trout, flounder, and redfish\u00a0find them quite tasty. At night, they feast on the clam worms until they cannot eat another thing. They eat so much that they do not get hungry until the clam worms hatch the next night. Of course, there is the occasional glutton that will eat during the day. These are the overweight, low-intelligence fish that Brody and I have been catching. Thankfully, the worm hatch only lasts about a week, so fishing will improve shortly.\u00a0<br \/>Excuse number two: the wind has been brutal, and the Wando River has been rough. This limits our fishing range. Additionally, all the wave action diminishes water clarity, which limits the ability of predators to see our lures. They\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0eat what they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0see.\u00a0<br \/>Excuse number three: Brody has been distracted with the stock market. He believes that volatility in the energy sector is\u00a0a great opportunity. It has been difficult to pull him away from his laptop and iPhone long enough to help me find fish.\u00a0<br \/>Worm hatch, brutal wind conditions, and a distracted fishing partner all contributed to poor fishing results. However, one evening the wind stopped, and Brody took a break from the stock market. We only caught one fish \u2013 an overweight and gluttonous redfish of extremely low intelligence.
