This week is National Public Health Week in Brookline and plenty of events to participate in and learn about public health. To kick off the week, there will be a Public Health Trivia Night on Monday, followed by a Friends of Brookline Public Health awards ceremony and celebration on Tuesday, a Yoga session with Healthworks on Wednesday and a Public Health Fair at the Brookline Village Library on Thursday. There will also be a standup comedy performance at The Silk Restaurant on Thursday. The Puppet Showplace Theater will be hosting “Please Ship This Wet Gift,” a funny play about feeling horrible, on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, there will be a Second Saturday speaker event at the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum focusing on industrial photographer Annie Powell, an Autism Acceptance Month community event at the Brookline Village Library and a YA Thriller Author Panel at Turtle Books. Finally, the Brookline Music School will close out the week with a performance honoring Asian composers.
Public Health Trivia Night
To kick off National Public Health Week in Brookline, the Brookline Village Library will host a Public Health Trivia Night. There will be six rounds of questions, ranging from public health inventions to identifying public health books and movies. All attendees will receive a public health goodie bag, and the top three finishers will receive Visa gift cards.

Friends of Brookline Public Health Annual Event and Awards Ceremony
The Friends of Brookline Public Health and Brookline Public Health & Human Services are teaming up for a glow-up night of performance and celebration at Brookline High School on Tuesday. There will be a red carpet arrival filled with appetizers and community vibes, an awards ceremony honoring Dr. Deborah Frank, Zahriyannah (Zaria) Karakashian-Jones and Company One Theatre, an interactive conversation with the awardees on taking action for better health in Brookline and a wrap party with prizes and a raffle for Red Sox vs. Yankees tickets at Fenway Park on April 22.

Yoga with Healthworks
This free yoga session with Healthworks will focus on the key benefits of yoga: core strength for stability, flexibility for better movement and posture for spinal alignment. Participants should bring a mat or towel and a water bottle to stay hydrated during this yoga session.

Public Health Fair
The Brookline Village Library will be hosting the Public Health Fair at Hunneman Hall on Thursday to close out Public Health Week in Brookline. There will be games, activities and live demonstrations like face painting, spin the wheel trivia and a Stop the Bleed demo. Attendees can connect with local health sources, chat with Health Champions, meet a therapy dog and learn about fostering.

The Short List – A Fine Standup Comedy Experience
The Short List, a curated standup comedy show, will feature multiple New England club headliners on Thursday’s performance at The Silk Restaurant. The comedy night will feature Jason Cordova, Dan Crohn, Kathe Farris and Adam Groppman, and it is hosted by Liam McGurk.

Puppet Showplace Theater Presents: “Please Ship This Wet Gift” by Brace Bucket Co.

Second Saturdays at the Waterworks: Annie Powell and an Accidental Photo Historian
This Second Saturday installment at the Waterworks Museum will focus on the legacy of pioneering Lowell industrial photographer Annie Powell. Photo historian Bernie Zelitch will be hosting this event. This event is free, but prior registration is required.

Autism Acceptance Month Community Event
The Brookline Public Library and Dr. Jenny Chu of Boston PEERS will host this free community event introducing practical, evidence-based strategies that help teens and young adults build friendships and social confidence. This event will include an interactive skills lesson, conversation stations to practice and connect, crafts and puzzles for all ages and social and community resource tables. Families, teens, young adults, educators and community members are welcome to attend.

YA Thriller Author Panel
Turtle Books will be joined by authors Rachel Dines, author of “How I Hacked the Moon?”, Patrick Joyce, author of “Strawberry Fields,” and Lori Miller Kase, author of “The Accident,” for this YA Author Panel on Saturday.

Musical Treasures of Asia
Brookline Music School faculty members will perform in this concert of music by Asian composers. Faculty members and vocalist Shena Miura, violinist Andrew Taylor and pianist Young Woong Cho will be performing.
