The Chief Executive Officer of Smart Africa, Lacina Koné, has commended the Government of Sierra Leone for its leadership in promoting youth-focused digital skills development through innovation-driven initiatives.
Koné expressed his appreciation to David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, and Salima Bah, Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation, for championing efforts aimed at equipping young people with skills critical to the future digital economy.

His remarks followed his participation in the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge held in Sierra Leone, where he engaged with young innovators showcasing creativity, curiosity and technical capability in robotics and emerging technologies.
Koné noted that the talent displayed by participants reflects the growing potential of Africa’s youth to drive digital transformation across the continent. He emphasized that such initiatives play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

As part of the event, Smart Africa supported and recognised five outstanding winners, highlighting its commitment to investing in talent and fostering innovation ecosystems that empower young people.
The Robotics for Good Youth Challenge forms part of broader efforts to strengthen digital skills development in Africa, positioning youth as key drivers of the continent’s future in technology and innovation.
