The Arab Council Australia, in partnership with OurDNA, hosted a community dinner and information evening on Thursday, 26 March 2026, at Al Aseel Restaurant.
The event brought together community representatives and leaders,Oz Arab Media was represented by Mr Elie Kaltoum Rahme who participated in a meaningful discussion on advancing inclusive health and medical research across Australia. It formed part of ongoing efforts to ensure culturally diverse communities are actively represented in national research initiatives.
CEO Hassan Moussa highlighted the organisation’s collaboration with OurDNA and its outreach to Arabic-speaking communities. Guest speaker Dr Chris Richards outlined the vision and objectives of the program, focusing on the importance of greater diversity in genetic research.
Attendees participated in an open discussion, sharing insights and raising important questions, while members of the OurDNA team engaged directly with the community to address concerns and gather feedback.
OurDNA is a flagship initiative of the Centre for Population Genomics, a joint venture between the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. The program aims to address the underrepresentation of multicultural communities in genetic databases—an issue that can impact the accuracy of diagnoses, treatments, and medical outcomes.
By working closely with organisations such as the Arab Council Australia, the initiative seeks to ensure cultural perspectives and community values are reflected in the future of healthcare research.
The evening highlighted the importance of collaboration, trust, and community voice in building a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system for all Australians.
