Following what was the first institutional meeting in Addis Ababa between the newly appointed Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sem Fabrizi, and the Ethiopian Minister of Innovation, Belete Molla—during which it was decided to work together—the first “steering committee” meeting was held, co-chaired by Minister Molla, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Luca Carpintieri, and the director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Addis Ababa, Michele Morana, to launch the project “Supporting the strengthening of digital services in Ethiopia through the creation of an incubation center for high-technology innovation enterprises.”
A €4.5 million project, funded by the Italian government and implemented in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology. This joint effort speaks, more than any words could, to the strength of a partnership built over time with Ethiopian counterparts and the effectiveness of the Italian System.
The project goes beyond the simple creation of digital infrastructure, promoting opportunities, providing a breeding ground for young talent, and a laboratory where ideas can be transformed into businesses. In the coming months, high-tech innovation and incubation centers will take shape, programs dedicated to startups will be launched, over 100 “last-mile” digital kiosks will be activated to bring services to businesses and citizens, and many young people will be trained in the most in-demand digital and entrepreneurial skills. A concrete investment in an innovation ecosystem capable of growing, being inclusive, and generating jobs. A shared path that looks to Ethiopia’s future, placing digital technology at the center as a lever for sustainable development.
