Jackson Lahmeyer, a Tulsa-area Republican pastor who failed to unseat U.S. Sen. James Lankford in 2022, has announced he wants to be the congressman for Oklahoma’s District 1.
Lahmeyer has cultivated ties with individuals in President Donald Trump’s orbit, including Gen. Mike Flynn, Roger Stone and Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani will be in Tulsa this weekend at a fundraiser for Lahmeyer, who is seeking to replace Congressman Kevin Hern, who is running for U.S. Senate.
Trump hasn’t yet made his preference known, although Lahmeyer is likely angling to land the president’s endorsement. Lahmeyer leads the Pastors for Trump organization, and Trump’s sons Eric and Donald Jr. have appeared multiple times at Lahmeyer’s church.

Lahmeyer is part of a movement that has steadily grown over the years with what many have labeled “Christian nationalism.” He has been unapologetic about his desire to transpose the influence of his religion onto the activities of government, including reintroductions of prayer in public schools.
This time around, he has stated his priorities are to keep borders secure, remove illegal criminals from the streets, make living in America affordable for Americans, not allowing the Chinese Communist Party to own farmland, and to ensure that sharia law “never takes root in our nation.”
The primary election will be on June 16. So far, it has drawn notable names in Oklahoma Republican politics, along with a few unknowns.
Kim David, the chairwoman of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, has filed paperwork to run for the 1st Congressional District seat now held by Hern.
Republican State Rep. Mark Tedford of Jenks also has filed to run for Hern’s current seat, according to the Federal Election Commission. The district primarily represents Tulsa and the surrounding area.
Other candidates besides Lahmeyer include Courtney Gill, Jackson Stallings and Jed Cochran. The official list of candidates will be determined after filing to appear on the ballot in Oklahoma, which takes place between April 1-3.
