Recently, Climalux successfully defended its invention – registered in a patent for the application of vertical ventilation to assimilation lamps – in proceedings before the Netherlands Patent Office (OCNL). The validity of the patent was challenged in these proceedings.
In its advice, OCNL indicated that the concept of the invention, and in particular the use of vertical ventilation, can be considered novel and inventive. Thanks to this advice, Climalux retains a strong patent and can confidently take the next steps in the further growth and development of its innovative cultivation solutions.
One of the key distinguishing features of the Climalux lighting system is – in addition to the very low inrush current – the unique vertical ventilation system. This system creates a stable microclimate around each plant in a closed environment, allowing the heat from the lamp to be utilized almost completely. This enables growers to achieve significant energy savings, which can amount to approximately 35%, particularly on gas consumption. In addition, the vertical airflow contributes to a healthier cultivation environment. Because diseases and fungi have less chance to take hold, the use of crop protection products can be significantly reduced. In combination with the dimmable lamp, which accurately mimics daylight, the even distribution of heat and moisture ensures higher production and a stronger, more stable crop.
The vertical ventilation system from Climalux is protected by multiple patents. This protection is essential to safeguard innovations – in which a great deal of time, knowledge, and investment has been poured. Patent law gives the holder the ability to take action against market parties that use a patented invention without permission. In the event of infringement, a court may even rule that users and/or buyers of the copied product are also liable to pay compensation to the patent holder.
