The Children’s Resource & Referral of Santa Barbara County (CRR) Discovery Museum invites families across the Central Coast to come together for a vibrant and inclusive celebration of World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday, April 2nd:
10AM–4PM (Regular Hours + an extra hour to explore!)
1PM – 4PM (Special Activities + Community Partners + Vendors) at the CRR Discovery Museum, located at 705 S. McClelland Street in Santa Maria.
This thoughtfully designed event centers on a simple but powerful idea: every child deserves a place to explore, play, and belong.
In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, the museum will offer free admission all day for individuals with autism and will extend operating hours to create additional access for families who benefit from a more flexible, supportive environment.
The event will feature interactive, hands-on exhibits and sensory-friendly opportunities that reflect CRR’s commitment to inclusive early learning and community connection. Local partners, including representatives from Assemblymember Gregg Hart’s office and community agencies, will also be present to share resources and engage with families.
“At CRR, inclusion is not a moment it is a mindset,” said Jacqui Banta, COO of Children’s Resource & Referral of Santa Barbara County. “This day is about more than awareness. It is about creating environments where every child is seen, supported, and celebrated exactly as they are.”
The CRR Discovery Museum has become a cornerstone space for families in Santa Barbara County, intentionally designed to support early brain development, curiosity, and belonging for children of all abilities. Events like World Autism Awareness Day reflect a broader, ongoing investment in building systems of care that are responsive, relationship-based, and rooted in equity.
Families, providers, and community members are encouraged to attend and experience a space where inclusion is lived out in real time.
